' In a letter to the Conservative candidate in the Fylde by-election, Mr. Chamberlain says: "The country is | passing through anxious and difficult ! times, which call for courage and j patience—two qualities in which the | people have never been found lacking. The road may be long and there may be obstacles in the path, but I believe this country is sufficiently united and resolute, and may yet lead the world to lasting peace. "With that object, we must be strong, not only in defence, but in national purpose. That strength ran only come if tlic Government, of this country can speak with the authority of a united people behind it." NO AFFILIATIONS. BRITISH LABOUR PARTY. LONDON. November 25. The Labour party's national executive has reaffirmed its decision not to associate with any other political party or group.
