STATE LOTTERIES.

Tn a statement by the Hon. W. E. Parry we are led to believe that the Government contemplates running a State lottery as expedient for raising funds for the proposed physical fitness scheme. Such a propo-a. should have been -brought, forward at the election time when the electors of thU country would have had an opportunity of expiring their approval or disapproval of a measure which must arouse grave misgivings among a large section of the community. Surely our representatives cannot be so bankrupt of ideas as to consider a measure which could only result in undermining the morale of the nation. I feel certain that all right-thinking people will express their strong disapproval of any attempt to further reduce the standard of living by taking from the public money which ought to be going into the channels which encourage further production and consumption of the real necessities of life. [ - i> ROBERT J. PETER.
