TRAVEL CLUB.

LOVELY BUDAPEST. DESCRIPTIVE TALK. Budapest, the Queen of the Danube — its splendour and its squalor, was the theme of Mr. Joseph .Major's most Interesting talk to the Travl Club at the weekly morning tea yesterday. Mr. Major enlivened his talk with amusing advertisements from Budapest newspapers. He described that of a fashion designer who had conceived the arresting and novel idea of making his bathing suits in colour tunings of ship signals, incorporating signs, "Clear the decks for action" or "Full steam ahead." and many others. Another was a matrimonial advertisement in which the lady very fully set forth her charms. Mr. Major Unished his talk, which was enthusiastically received, on a graver note, .pointing out the difficult conditions in Europe to-day. The president. Air. J. A. C. Allum, was iu the chair and hostesses for tile morning were Mrs. Eliot Davis and Mrs. H. T. Mr. Allum, before introducing the speaker, proposed to the meeting that Mrs. Victor Macky, founder of the club, should be made a life member and this was unanimously carried with enthusiasm.

Recitations were given during the morning by Miss Joyce Dennison, who was presented with a shoulder spray" bv Mrs. Eliot Davis.

Members of the committee present included Mrs. Charles Martyn. Airs. (i. T. Simpson, Mrs. A. F. O'Donoghue, Mrs. C. K. V. Wheeler, Mrs. F. 11. Oifford, Mrs. Archibald Bishop, Mrs. Raymond .Sheath. Mrs. J. McKcnzie Wilson. Mrs. (J. E. Anderson, and Mrs. S. T. Wickstead. Mr. F. H. (Jifford, of the executive committee, was also present. Among the overseas and out-of-town guests were:—Mrs. Marsden (Canada); Miss Av. Pilson and Miss F. E. Jordan (England); Miss F. E. Williams, and Miss W. Murfin (Honolulu); Mrs. J. Gamble (Singapore); Miss F. Suisted (Sydney); Mrs. H. M. S. Dawson, and Mrs. J. Mansell (Christchurch); Mrs. K. Smith, Mrs. W. Thomas and the Misses B. and K. Coltmail (Wellington); Mrs. F. J. Sands (Dannevirke); and Mrs. W. S. Bramwell (Havelock North).
