GREAT OVATION.
Australian Singer's Success
In New York.
CONVENTION CAST ASIDE.
NEW \ORK, November 24.
The Australian soprano, Miss Marjorie Lawrence, singing as Brunnhilde in "The Valkyries," was given an ovation by a capacity Metropolitan Opera House audience, which cast aside convention and momentarily held up the performance after her first exit. The applause made it impossible for Wotan to proceed. At the conclusion of the opera Miss Lawrence responded to numerous curtain calls.
The "New York Times" savs: "Miss Lawrence, in addition to the fresh dramatic character of her voice, has illusion, not only for the ear, but for the eye. It is a youthful, heroic figure she presents, clad in the Valkyr's armour, and her interpretations are full of vitality and emotion."
