She did valuable work during the war and in Scottish education. She married the Maripiess of Tullibardine, now Duke of Atholl, in 1899.
At the last election the Duchess, with 15,238 votes, defeated her onlv opj>onent, a Liberal, Mrs. C. A. Mac-Donald, by 5169 votes.
