CRITICISM VOICED.
NATIONAL PARTY'S SCHEMES.
Mr. A. O. Oehorne, Labour candidate ■ for Onehunga, received an enthusiastic ..reception when he addressed a crowded audience in the Methodist Hall, Greenwood's Corner, last evening. Mr. C. E. Hankins presided. Mr. Osborne explained at length the Social Security Act, and compared the benefits with those offered by the National party. To obtain any benefit under the, National party's health scheme, he declared, one must be able to prove poverty, no service Wing otherwise provided. For this, people would pay a wage tax of 8d in the £1 on income. Mr. Hamilton also proposed a compulsory superannuation scheme for those not covered by any other scheme. That meant a man receiving a weekly wage of £5 would pay 3/4 wage tax and a further sum of anything from 5/ to £2 per week, according to his age, for compulsory superannuation of 30/ weekly at the-age of GO. This would mean an impossible handicap for people in receipt of the average wage.
A vote of confidence in Mr. Osborne and in the Labour Government was carried with two dissentients, and cheers were given for the candidate.
