HOLDSWORTH WINS IT.
NARROW VICTORY OVER WHITE.
L. F. Holdsworth, New Zealand billiards champion, last night annexed the Auckland amateur provincial snooker title, when he beat M. D. White in the final by three games to two. '
The match wae the beet of five games and after the fourth the position from Holdsworth's point of view was: s»—lilr 61- 56, 39—io, 35—60.
This necessitated the playing of a final game which proved a dour struggle in which safety tactics were exploited. The scoring fluctuated and each player was faced with difficult positions. Holdsworth gained a slight lead at 31 to 28 with the colours left. With the championship depending 011 the last few balls, play was exciting and both players frequently turned a disadvantage to an advantage by excellent shots. Holdsworth potted the yellow and the green. He doubled the brown with a good shot and White required the la«t three balls to win. Holdsworth doubled the blue, -and, after potting the pink, he went in off and White had another chance to win. Holds-
worth snookered White on the pink and the latter required a snooker to win. Holdsworth, however, secured the pink and won the match. Mr. S. Holdswortb, chairman of the Auckland Billiards Association, presented the trophies.
