NOT INTENSIFIED.
RECRUITING APPEAL.
NO UNTOWARD MEASURES.
COLONEL MEAD'S STATEMENT.
"Our campaign for recruits could not have come at a better time," said Colonel O. H. Mead, officer commanding the Northern Command, this morning. He was referring in part to the overseas crisis. He said, however, that the campaign was not being intensified because of that crisis, and no untoward measures had been considered necessary. He added that he had conferred this morning with certain of his area officers, but that had
no special significance. The public would be advised if any special measures were deckled on.
At the moment no call was being made for volunteers, though inquiries had been made about them, and a good many had. offered their services. All that was done was to take names, just the same procedure as would have been followed had overseas affairs been normal.
When questioned concerning the matter, Colonel Mead added that he had no word that Imperial officer reservists had received orders to report for possible duty. It was possible that they would be advised individually, he thought.
