WAITER CHARGED.
CONSPIRACY ALLEGED.
REMAXD ON BAIL GRANTED.

WELLINGTON, Monday.
Charged that between about September 25 and November 22, at Brisbane, with Francis Arthur Miller, Frederick Reginald Anderson and Leonard Fdwanln, he conspired to obtain money from Francis Albert Blucher by fraudulent means, Cyril Edward Smith (30), ft waiter, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in "the Police Court to-day.
In Asking for a remand for a week. Detective-Sergeant P. Doyle said he was doubtful if the police would be in a rition to proceed, but they would be a position to convey the real position to ,the Court.
Mr. G. C. Kent, appearing for Smith, applied for bail, and stated that Smith was anxious to return to Brisbane to dean up the charge. If, in the meantime, he could have his freedom, it would assist him in his defence. He was first Seen by detectives four months •go in connection with the charge, and since then he had remained at the same address. If he had intended to abscond. It was submitted, he would have taken ateps to dor so long before.
Mr. Doyle said the accused was traced as a result of tile activities of Detective W. Ritchie, and. following that, the Brisbane police were communicated with, •nd they had sent a cable of instruction for the issue of proceedings and the obtaining of a provisional warrant. The ■mount involved was £8000. Any little delay that might have occurred was caused by the police on' the other side having difficulty in tracing the other persons mentioned.
A remand was granted and bail was fixed at ' £300, with two sureties of |£150.
