FINE SPEED.

GREAT CHUM'S EFFORT.

HALF MILE IN 1.5.

I The outstanding feature of training operations at Epsom this morning was a very fine sprint by Great Chum when in company with Noble Prince. Pacing in fine style Gipsy Light led Sweet Aloes by about a length and a half throughout a mile and a quarter in 3.0, the last half mile taking 1.10 After the quartet had T-? a xT n \ ,]e G S. ld KiD P ut in a bad break, while Nelson Pearl was eased up. When he settled down again Gold Kip put his best forward and got to the end of a mile and a half in 3 41. • Pukemiro (W. Fleming), who is getting on m years showed dash by running the last half mile of a mile and a quarter '" l -\ j,, p full distance took him 2.5 2-5. Worthy Ouest—just in from a spell—was no use to Our Princess (W. Willetts) in a mile and a quarter effort, the last-named finishing several lengths ahead in 3.0, the last half mile taking 1.11. Vanora (L. J. Mahoney), who is bearing a bright appearance, did steady work, as also did Argolis. Petite Jewel (W. H. Andrews) commenced two seconds aheaa of Equoipoise (S M. August) from the mile-and-a-half pole, but the pair had not gone more than three furlongs before Equoipoise, racing well within himself, was up with him. As they entered on the last half mile Equipoise took the lead and he went over the last half mile in 1.8, the full distance taking him 3.25 2-5. Petite Jewel, who was a length away, took 3.28. Equipoise is probably the most promising of the young pacers in work at Epsom, but he is erratic at the barrier, and that is a grave handi-1 cap. I

Noble Prince was the next to have a try-out over the same distance. He put on speed quickly, his driver J. McKenI drick sending him over the first half mile in 1.6 2-5. Great Chum (Mrs. Collins) in saddle then joined in and raced over the next half in 1.5. This tied Noble Prince up and he took 1.10 to do the last half mile, making 3.22 for the full journey. Great Chum completed the mile in 2.12 — it was a most impressive effort. Kewpie's Crest (J. Gee) commenced ahead of Kewpie's Queen (W. Gee) and Kewpie's Triumph (Bell) at the mile and a quarter pole and he led his two companions over the first mile, after which they joined him. As they turned into the . straight Kewpie's Queen, who is in nice order and pacing soundly, forged to the front and passed the final post going comfortably just ahead of Kewpie's Crest in 3.34. the last half being put behind in 1.7 2-5. Forest Jewel (L. Mitchell), Stargum (W. Head) and Tommy McElwyn (A. McKenzie) were others who did useful work and who are in good order for serious training t for early events.
