"LAMBETH WALK."
ARYAN COMPOSITION. SO GERMANS MAY DO IT. A SOLEMN ASSURANCE. (Special.—By Air Mail.) LONDON, September 3. Germans may now do the "Lambeth Walk," the composer having given his solemn assurance that lie is an Aryan. In the absence of such an assurance the J song would have been banned, officially.! in Germany.
1 The German branch of the London firm holding the copyright wrote recently that there was a demand for j"The Lambeth Walk," but it could not jbe sold unless Mr. Gay, the composer, ! would sign an enclosed declaration. The |document was in these terms:— "I, Xoel Gay, hereby declare that I am the sole composer of the music of the eongs contained in the show 'Me and My Girl,' in which is included 'The Lambeth Walk.' I also declare that I am an Aryan." Mr. (Jav signed the form, saying, "Tell them T am a Yorksliireman, like Hutton." Mr. Gay, whose real name is Reginald Maxell Armitage, was first choir boy. j and. at 13. deputv-organist at Wake- | field Cathedral. He is the son of a Wakefield coal factor.
