WAGES RATES FIXED.
CARETAKERS AND CLEANERS. ■ i Wages for cleaners, caretakers and liftmen in the Northern Industrial District are fixed in an award issued by the Arbitration Court. All other matters in dispute were settled in Conciliation Council and. in a memorandum, the Court states that it has settled the wages issue in line with previous awards and decisions regarding wages and hours. The question was raised, states the memorandum, as to whether the Dominion shop assistants" award might cover cleaners and liftmen in retail shops in j the Northern Industrial District. The Auckland City Cleaners, Caretakers and Liftmen's Union, however, had been registered for many years and had made awards covering these workers for about 20 years. Accordingly, the Court held that they were bound by the same award as previously.
