FROM SYDNEY.

CONGRESS DELEGATE.

SUCCESS OF CONFERENCE.

MAUNGANTJI IN FORT TO-DAY.

Members of the Legislative Assembly in Punjab and one of the Indian delegates to the recent British Commonwealth Relations Conference in Australia, Mr. M. Ghiasuddin was among the passengers in the Union Company's liner Maunganui when the vessel reached Auckland this morning after a line Tasman crossing.

It was Mr. Ghiasuddin's opinion that the conference was a successful one. The delegates from his country had received a good hearing, and he supposed that many people sympathised with their points of view. While all delegates did not agree with all opinions expressed at the conference, he thought great value lay in the fact that they had 'been able to gain greater understanding of one another's viewpoints and problems.

Mr. M. Ghiatuddin. The question of India's self-govern-ment, which was already quite advanced, was one of the subjects raised. Mr. Clhiasuddin explained that all the eleven provinces were self-governing, and in each case their executives were responsible to the legislature. "We now hope that a federation of these governments will come into being within a year or two," said Mr. Ghiasuddin, '"but that is rather a question between ua and Great Britain. At present there are differences as regards its formation and representation." Mr. Ghiasuddin, who is accompanied by his wife and young son, will remain in New Zealand for about eleven days. Other Passengers. The passenger list included Mr. \V. CJoodfellow, advisory director to the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, who was accompanied by Mr. W. I. Kirker, superintendent of the company. They have been on a short business trip to Sydney and Melbourne. Dr. and Mrs. M. G. Pezaro returned to Auckland in the ship after a holiday visit to Australia.
