Fentonville prison—one hundred years old i —is to be pulled down and the site used for • a London housing scheme, says the London 1 "Daily Express." Other out-of-date prisons i will be gradually scrapped, including those at i Beading and Oxford. For women a model - prison is to be built, and Hollowav, their I present prison, will be used for men. These ; were among drastic prison reforms which Sir ? Samuel Hoare. Home Secretary, announced in i the House of Commons last month. The new I prison for women which Sir Samuel Hoare has > in mind will he "more like a camp in the > country." Better clothes, food, cell lighting i and libraries, and less solitude, together with ' physical training, are to go hand in hand with i this rehousing of the prison population. The I need for better housing was emphasised by > Sir Samuel Hoare. "We wish to have a - housing programme for prisoners just as wc i have one for the other classes of tho community."
