HOUSING TENDERS. TWELVE MORE FOR OTAHUHU. The letting of tenders for the erection of a further 12 houses at Otahuhu by the State Housing Department is announced in advice received bv Mr G R. Petrie, Labour candidate for Otahuhu. The firm of Grinter Brothers is the successful tenderer. Seven of the new dwellings, it is understood, will be erected oil the Sturges Estate the other five to be built on Mennie's Estate in Walmsley Road. Building on all sections acquired on the first-named estate will thus be completed. The first of the 23 houses on Mennie's Estate was commenced a few weeks ago. Slight damage was caused by a fire which broke out under the bonnet of a large car in Fort Street at about 9.30 this morning. The alarm was given from a street fire alarm on the left-hand side of Queen Street and two machines from the Central Fire Station answered the call. The driver of the damaged vehicle was Mr. A. J. Burn, of 1, Baldwin Avenue, Mount Albert. No difficulty was experienced in getting the outbreak, which was caused bv a short circuit in the electrical wiring system, under control.
