CHAMPION RUNNER. FIGHT WITH UNEMPLOYMENT. (By Air Mail.) LONDON, September 1. On sale in a Tort Talbot shop are several imposing trophies. They belong to a man on the means test—l>aac O'Brien, Welsh marathon champion. He has had to put them up for sale to provide food for his wife and four children. Thousands cheered when ho set a new till 27m 42s record for the Carditf-to-Swansea run. But fe\V knew of O'Brien's fight with unemployment. Out of work for two year<s tramping the streets in vain each day for a job, he may soon have to give up his sporting career. O'Brien, who is 35, has taken part in the London-to-Brighton run for the last two years. This year he had hoped to put up a record.
