WANTED MAN ARRESTED.
TWENTY-FOUR HOURS' SEARCH.

GISBOHN K, this day. A 24-liour police search over rou<di country for a wanted man who durin"that time walked 40 miles over hills and creek beds to avoid being seen on the main road culminated in an arrest at Tokomaru Bay to-day by Constable J. W. Beaslev. It is understood that the man was wanted in connection with an alleged offence in Wliangarei last yea-. A report was received at the Ruatoria police station that there was a au§picious character on a station at Wairongomai, 15 miles from Ruatoria. Constables Birch and Bagge set out. but before they could approach the man he bolted for the bush. The police organised a search party with the assistance of local residents, but no tra"e could be found of the wanted man Two hours later Constable Birch saw the man walking down a no-exit road. \s soon as lie saw the constable the man took to his heels, and, even though the district was combed, nothing could be seen of him. All police stations and residents on the coast were asked to keep a watch and the driver of Ward's Transportlorry, Mr. X. Kawai, also was given a warning. When negotiating the Takapau Hill, Mr. Kawai offered a lift to the wanted man, and he was arrested at lokomaru Bay.
