Oraml National fixture he was third iu the Islington Handicap, one mile and a quarter, with 0.10. hut, of course, it was an 8.0 minimum. He is not without prospects. Trench Fight (8.8) has not raced since New Year, but he wan a Rood (>erformer as a three-year-old the previous season and early last season. He is stated to be working well at Riccarton, Catalogue (8.7) has been taken to Australia, and it is doubtful if he will return for the New Zealand Cup. Padishah (8.0) has a Wellington Cup to his credit. He is a proved atayer, a half-brother to Cuddle, and has inore tlifln a paseing chance. Wotan (8.">) does not impress, as he has fulled too often since winning the Melbourne Cup to be seriously considered, ( erne Ablins (8,4) won the New Zealand Clip la«t year with 7.10. but failed in the Auckland Clip. She has no reeent form. The Buzzer (8..1) won the last Auckland Clip with 7.0. and though he has not done milch since then this performance entitles him to respect. Arctic King and Queen of Song each have 8.1. The former has won up to a mile and a half, while Queen of Song was fourth iu the Melbourne Cup the year Wotan won. She is at present in Australia, and it Is doubtful whether she will be back for the New Zealand Clip.

Kelly and Siegmiiiid Tiave each 7.11. hilt the former is on unlikely starter. Siegmnnd won lip to a mile and a

•jiiarier last season, on several occasions, and there is no reason why he should not see out the distance. This also applies to (Quadroon (7.10). who bus been racing consistently. I'ontv and Lowenberg have been awarded 7.!>. The former lias bad three races this season, and should lie well forward. Loweiiberg has been off the scene since the autumn, but lie has a New Zealand Derby to his credit. Dictate (7.0) lias shown form up to a mile and a half, ami is a useful sort. Malagigi. Tidewaiter ami Milford have each 7.5. and of this trio Tidewaiter after "ils Tour wins on end. including the Avondale ('up last Saturday, appeals most. However. Malagigi won over a mile ami a half at Kllerslie last hnsfer. and he should stay out the distance. Boomerang and (lay Son (7.4) do not impress. Of those lower down Valantua, Happy Landing, Sly Fox and Pink Robe seem the best. Slv Fox has raced well during the last few months. Some that may appeal just now are: Tidewaiter. The Buzzer.
