FAREWELL EVENING.
| FORMER CONSTABLE. 1 I PAPATOETOE FUNCTION. A farewell evening tendered to Constable G. P. Malopey was held last night in the Papatoetoe Town Hall by residents of Papatoetoe. The hall was beautifully decorated with spring flowers and a large number of people were present to farewell Mr. Malonev, who recently retired from the police force after being stationed at Papatoetoe for 12 years.
Mr. Les Kendall, chairman of the Papatoetoe Town Board, presented Mr. and Mrs. Maloney with a clock, crystal water set and electric kettle, on behalf of the residents of Papatoetoe. and spoke highly upon the excellent services rendered by Mr. Maloney in the district. Mr. W. J. Nicholson, chairman of the finance committee and former chairman of the Papatoetoe Town Board, Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County, and Mr. C. J. Mahon, on behalf of residents, all paid tribute to Mr. Maloney's excellent police services in the district.
Mr. Les Kendall extended a cordial welcome to Constable Poll and Mrs. Poll to the district. Constable Poll was recently appointed district resident constable.
The evening took the form of a conversazione, with a number of excellent items given by Mrs. Rattray (songs), Miss L. Hunter and Mrs. Cooke (elocution' items), and Mr. Percy Denning (piano accordion selections).
