TREE PLANTING.
BEAUTIFYING GROUNDS.
Six cypress trees were planted yester*l*y_afternoou by veteran members of the congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, lower. Symands Street, as the first step of a scheme for the beautifying of the church grounds. There was a large attendance of members and friends of the church, and the deputyMayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, was present in the absence of the' Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, The function was also attended by .the town clerk, Mr. J. Melling, and by Mr. L. Coakley, a member of the Auckland City Council. The oldest member of the church, llts. J. G. Elliott, who will celebrate her ninety-second birthday on Mondav, planted one of the trees. Others were Planted by Mr. Sinclair Rejd, on behalf of his mother, Mrs. John Reid, Mrs. McK Gedde*, Miss M. Kirkwood knd Miss B.": lyirfcwood. | See picture on illustrations page. '
