OFFER TO FIGHT.
YOUNG CAR DRIVER.
THREATENING LANGUAGE. CHALLENGE TO INSPECTOR. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this day. Described as being of the America* gangster type, an 18-year-old youth appeared before Mr. E. L.. Walton, S.M., yesterday morning in the Children's Court charged with threatening language. The charge was brought by Traffie Inspector Xowell, who in evidence ■ said that when he stopped the defendant's car the defendant said: "For two pins I'd crack you. You are hiding behind the majesty of the law. Take off your uniform, and I'll ;ght you now." J The defendant was also charpred with [driving without a license, and without [due care and attention.
The traffic inspector said he noticed a car steering an erratic course. He thought a woman was driving and stopped the car. Then he «iw that the. defendant was driving and that a young woman was also in the car. Recognising the woman he said. "Good evening," and mentioned her name, whereupon the defendant said not to bring the woman's name into the matter and used the language complained of. Witness described the defendant as an inexperienced driver who was evading paying | the license fee. j The magistrate adjourned the three [charges till October 2rt on the condition that the youth attend a course of !courtesy and civility hv Traffic Inspector iXnwell.
