SURPLUS POTATOES.
RELIEVING SERIOUS GLUT. MORE SHIPMENTS PLANNED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The question of further shipments of potatoes for export waa discussed to-day by the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash. He eaicTfnat existing arrangement* were working smoothly, and tiiat there waa no doubt that sufficient quantities of potatoes would be exported to relieve the serious glut on the local market.
The Minister added that there was no reason for any quantity of exportable quality Bed Dakota potatoes remaining unsold, as the Government bad already announced some days ago that it va« prepared to purchase all potatoes of tliis variety vhich would oome up to export grade. Accordingly the neccwiary arrangements had been made 'by the Internal Marketing Division whereby every merchant desirous of participating in export shipments could be ;is*ured of receiving full advice as to the necessary procedure.
"I hope growers will realise tte necessity of promptly making available all their exportable potatoes in order that the shipment of several thousand tons arranged for the Port Melbourne, due to leave about September 29, will be wmpry ÜBed."
