WRESTLERS ATTACKED

DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR.

TWO YOUNG MEN FINED.

WAIHI, this day.

The sequel to the sensational incident which occurred at the Miners' Theatre on the evening of Saturday, September 3, during the professional wrestling contest between Al Dane and Fred Batroe, when two young men rushed the ring and attacked the wrestlers, was heard in the Police Court this morning, when Robert W. Patterson (23) and Alfred George Wright (21) were charged on remand with disorderly behaviour while drunk. They pleaded guilty.

Senior Sergeant W. Blake eaid the defendants rushed on to the temporary stage and attacked the wrestlers. They were put out of the ring, but insisted on coming back. One of the wrestlers refused to continue the bout.

"We had had a few drinks," said the accused, when asked by Mr. W. H. Freeman, S.M., if they had any excuse.

"It would have just eerved you chaps right if the wrestlers had given you a clout on the ear," remarked the magistrate. "It is time you realised your responsibilities, and put a little by instead of spending nil your money on drink. You see. you not only created a disturbance, but also spoiled the fun of the evening."

A fine of £3 and costs was imposed in each case, and the defendants were also ordered to pay 30/ between them for damage done to the mat.
