The Meteorological Office reckons anything up to 34 miles an hour a "strong breeze." Over that velocity it calls a "moderate gale" lip to 40 miles an hour: a "fresh gale" if blowing between 40 and 48 miles an hour; a
•'strong gale" up to 56 miles; and a "whole pale" for anything between that and 05 miles. Ordinarily that ie as high as we ever get in this country; "a storm" in meteorological phraseology means a velocity of 65 to 75 miles an hour.
