In his bed-sitting-room at Notting Hill Gate, London, he declared this j week:—"l had never made a sea voyage before, but I wasn't seasick. We were more thau 18 weeke at sea, and the work was hard—but I gained more than an inch in height and lttlb in weight. "On board the windjammer—Lawhill, a Finnish boat—they taught me to steer, set saik and keep look-outs. When we crossed the equator they cut the Southern Cross in my hair. Then they tarred me and made" me trip blindfold over a rope stretched across the deck to represent the Equator. I wae given a pill of chalk and paint-oil and a drink of vinegar, lime-juice and eavenne pepper to, wash it down."
