PRAISE FOR MR. F. W. GREY.

TRIBUTE TO THE CHAIRMAN.

The report to be presented next Wednesday at the annual meeting of the Auckland Centre of the New .Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, states that prospects for the 1938-39 eca*ou are brighter than ever.

He is chairman of the National Committee of Lifeeaving and Swimming, and it is his wish to continue in that position to further cement the happy relations existing between the 'Life-envfng Society, Surf Association, and Swimming Centre.

The appointments of Mr. F. G. Dunn, of Chrwtchiirch, the New Zealand president, and Dr. T. H. Pettit, of Auckland, to the National Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation, were a fitting tribute to their efforts on behalf of followers of all eporte. National Titles. Aucklanders selected to rei>resent New Zealand at tlie Bi itisli Kinpire Games in Sydney were P. Hanan, V. Crump and Miiw M. Leydon. The Dr. Pettit Cup. nwnrded to the swimmer scoring the most points in handicap events or 220 yds and further, was won by A. Pnficoe. The North Shore Club sained the Sharp Shield by obtaining the highest number of 254 points in handicap evente decided during the season.

The clubs under the centre's jurisdiction during the past season were Auckland University, Darfjaville, Eastern Suburbs. Mount Eden. North Shore. Otnhnhu. PonRonby. Parnell. Waitemata. Whangarei. Waiuku. Tlie Auckland Primary Scliools" Swimmina and Life-eevins Association and the Auckland branch of tlie Royal Lifeeaving Society also affiliated.
