MISHAP TO TUG.
COURT OF INQUIRY.
SITTING TO-MORROW.
SINKING OF TE AWHINA.
A nautical inquiry into the circumstances of the pinking of the Auckland Harbour Board's tug Te Awhina, on August 11 last, will open at the Magistrate's Court to-morrow at 10 a.m. Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., will prcsi<le. tlie nautical assessors will be Captain H. K. Hughes, of Devonport, and Captain K. J. Hamilton, of the Bluff. The engineer assessor will be Mr. W. H. Parker, of Auckland.
At the inquiry Mr. Allan J. Moody will appear for the master of tho txitiCaptain 1). Probert, Dr. N. A. FouVn will represent the Marino Department. Mr. H. E. Barrowclough the Auckland Harbour Heard, and Mr. (J. P. Kinlsiy tho harbourmaster, Captain H. H. Sergeant, and the pilot. Captain W. (i. Kelsey.
At the- time of tho mishap Te Awhina wart assisting to bectli the Federal Line motor snip Esea" She was struck by tho starboard propeller of the Essex. The master of the tug. Captain Probert, was able to get his vessel to shallow water off tho Western Viaduct before she sank. Subsequently the tug was raised, and put on the Harbour Board's ■lipway for repairs.
