UNIVERSITY'S PART.
COMMITTEE TO BE SET UP,
As a preliminary to planning the part of the Auckland University in the 1940 centennial celebrations, the council of the college at yesterday's meeting adopted a recommendation that a special committee be set up for tho purpose.
Professor \V. A. Sowell said it was felt there was no doubt that tho college ought to play an important part in the celebrations, and it was considered by tho Professorial Hoard that every organisation connected with the college should be included on such a committee.
The council adopted the suggestion that a committee be set up consisting of three representatives each of tho council, the Pr«i?essorial Board, the lecturers, the students and the Convocation. It was suggested nUn that an executive committee be ap[*>inted from tho representatives.
The council elected ne its three representatives the chairman, Mr. W. H. Cocker, the vice-chairman. Mr. J. Johnstone, mid Dr. Douglas Robh. Another mutter dealt with by the council was the scheme to establish a professorship or lectureship in the History of New Zealand nn>l the British Common wealth, to be called the Centennial Professorship (or I>etureship) in tho History of the British Commonwealth. A resolution was passed urging th" Auckland Provincial Centennial Council to consider the claime of Aneklnnd University College with regard to such a foundation.
