IDDO'S EASY VICTORY,

(from Our Own Correspondent.)

WANGANUI, Monday

Since the Wanganui meeting Minga has gone on the right way and ehe must be hard to beat in the maiden at Marton next Saturday. However, much will depend on the atate of the going.

The racing at Foxton on Saturday showed that Morning Flight had improved by his effort* at Wanganui and the three-year-old eon of Laughing Prince won the Maiden in impressive ityle, a« he wae well back three furlong* from home, but finished strongly. Morning Flight will be worth watching at Hastings next month. ! The three-year-old Hupting Song colt, Prediction, runner-up to Morning Plight, ie a promising eort and should win soon. Iddo scored a very easy win on the hurdles at Foxton. Curie was a long way back last until half a mile from home, hie jumping being very faulty. He made up a lpt of leeway over the final stages, but hart no chance with the winner. Royal Choice followed up hie easy -win at Wanganui by a decisive victory in the Awahou Hack Handicap. The son of Laughing Prince promise* to hold hie own in open company, am he is a hack well above the average. LucuMub Lad tried to win the Gold Cup all the way. but faded out of the contest over the concluding stages, Happy Landing confirming his good form at Wanganui by winning, nlthough only by a very narrow margin, from Quadroon. Southern Blood hit every fence in the Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase, nn# was nearly down once, but he won nicely at the end. He and Hanover had a battle royal from the five furlongs to the last obstacle, running right away from the

other pair, Rueneori and Sir Acre. Dead beaten, Hanover toppled over at this etage, and it took him tome time to regain hie breath sufficiently to get on his legs again.

Screen Star ran a good race in the distance hack event, and this gelding should get into the money at Mar ton, as he Iβ an improving sort.

Deficit wa* started twice at Foxton and in his second essay was leading at the turn when he bled and was eased up. Prior to leaving Wanganui for Foxton, Jazz Boy and Morning Flight were associated in a half-mile gallop, which pointed to them as likely winners laet Saturday, and both made good. Jazz Boy won the open sprint in a style which suggests he will win again in the near future.

It is surprising that _W. Rayner will not have a representative in either the Great Northern Guineas or the Welcome Stakes. The form shown by Submission at Wanganui suggested ehe would give a good account of hereelf at Ellerslie, if started,' but Rehearsal has so far failed to reproduce the promise he showed in the autumn. However, the Limond colt might make amends later on.

Mr. Geo. Currie has Portal and Submission engaged in the Welcome at Riccarton and Rayner might take a team south this spring in preference to going north.

The Martama mare Mawai promises to be one of the hardest to dispose of in the Maiden at Marion. She beat all but Royal Choice in the Trial at Wanganui, and is likely to-be one of the chief fancies on Saturday: ■ .. ..'

Eurotas, who was given one race only at Wanganui, ie to run in the Maiden at Marton on Saturday. This son of Pantheon has not yet performed up to expectations, but he may do better later on. He looks none the worse for his race here.

A well-known sport, Mr. Charles Cameron ("Son") Smith, died suddenly this morning. He was a member of the Wanganui Jockey Club, also the Trotting Club, and owned and raced Elysianor, a good performer some yean ago.
