SOCIAL SECURITY PLAN.
GOVERNMENT CRITICISED.
(From Our Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, Monday. A declaration that the Government had shown a lack of candour about its social security scheme was made by Professor R. M. Algie, organiser of the Auckland Provincial Freedom Association, in an address to-night. He said the scheme had been introduced at the end of Labour'.* first term in office, and it would not come into operation until April 1 next year. "If the scheme had been made to operate before the next financial year, the Minister of Finance, the Hon. \V. Kash, would have had to show the anticipated cost in the Budget, and he did not want to do that." Profeesor Algie added. "The public should have heon told not only the benefits of eocial security, but also the costs."
