COWS ELECTROCUTED.
POWER POLE BREAKS.
ELEVEN ANIMALS KILLED.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
WAIUKU, Monday,
Eleven dairy cows in milk, and valued at £1.30, were electrocuted on Mr. Ron Wymer's farm at Glenbrook, near Waiuku, during the height of the storm early on Sunday morning. A power pole, carrying the electric service lines into Mr. Wymer's property, snapped during a heavy squall, eaueing the live wires to fall to the ground. A number oi dairy cows, sheltering tinder some macrocarpa trees, became frightened and stampeded. They ran into the death trap, eleven being killed. A valuable pedigree heifer was severely injured, but she is expected to recover. While Mr. Wymer's loss is severe, he was fortunate that more of his herd did not meet their end.
