NEW MOVE ENDANGERS PEACE

Sudetens Form Volunteer Corps MASSING ON BORDER WILL FIGHT AGAINST CZECHS INSIDE FRONTIER OBSERVERS SEE GRAVE TURN (United Press Association.—Copyright— Rec. 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 18. «« -T* 1 * Brit ' Bh United Preßß correspondent at Berlin says the tht the ne Su d a r nCy r CirCU,at^ a , meßsage from Dresde " St H!nl Sud f« P" man Volunteer Corps, formed by Herr Henlein, numbers 40,000. tK«> JZJI! TimeS " Pra g u « representative says the formation of „' Volunt . e « corps caused the situation to take a more serious turn. It is believed that between 5000 and 10,000 young Sudetens went to Germany last week. f /° m Berlin '< t l le r D , aily correspondent describes the format.on of the Sudeten German Volunteer Corps ?Jk Vi. at 1 P '" Gc "nany's systematic campaign against the Czechs I his band, apparently composed of Sudeten refugees and military age German "volunteers," is armed with German weapons. According to Field-Marshal Goerings organ "National fitting the corps, which is being stationed on the frontier, will not stand defensive, but will fight against Czechs inside Sudetenland, thus increasing the danger to peace. The organisation of the corps, the correspondent adds, is the more remarkable as Germany still retains diplomatic relations with Czechoslovakia. Plauen, 16 miles from the Czech frontier, is so full of troops that soldiers are sleeping in shops. The same is apparently true on the whole frontier. Motorists from Dresden to Berlin on Saturday passed long columns of Nazi guards moving up to the frontier. It is understood that preparations against air raids are proceeding in Berlin and neighbourhood. Anti-aircraft gun emplacements are manned day and night. Herr Henlein's headquarters are now somewhere in Germany. It is believed his proclamation forming the volunteer corps, although purporting to come from Asch. was drawn up in Germany. Herr Henlein's manifesto was issued by the official German news agency. Defensive military preparations are continuing along the whole of German side of the frontier, says the "Daily Telegraph" Metz correspondent, and along the Moselle-Luxem-bourg frontier. Business is at' a standstill in Lorraine and Luxembourg.
