WAGES- INCREASED.
OPTICIANS' EMPLOYEES.
In consideration of the fact that work is for five and a half days a week, mechanics and foremen employed by jewellers, watchmakers and opticians in the northern industrial district have had their wages increased by 7/0 a week under a new award jiwt written. Female attendants will receive 2/C a week more and all wages increase* will lie retrospective to April 1, 19.-JS. Tlie dispute was heard at the Arbitration Court before Mr. Justice O'Ke^an. The award covers workers employed in all o|K'iations performed in the 'c-t'.ii>-lir-liinclitK of opticians md spectaclemaker-, but docs not in. hide retraction NIS one of the main points at issue. Hours of work for learners and morhanicrt in the factory are fixed at 40 a week, spread o\er five and a half days; and for assistants in optical room* and optical warehouses or shop*, 44 • week over the same period. Ten day* »•» allowed for holidays eacb year and tl* u*ual overtime clause ia provided.
