BONNEVILLE (Utah), September 16.
Captain G. E. T. Evston has repa ined the world land speed record. He averaged 357.5 miles per hour in two runs. His first run was made at 356.44 miles an hour and the second was 358.57 miles an hour. He was nervous and breathless when he finished, but he said that he had enjoyed the run tremendously. The car was still at the experimental stage owing to the changes made to decrease wind" resistance, hut it performed perfectly. He added that his future plans were indefinite. He might return in 10.W •unless 1 have to make the Thunderbolt into a torpedo." A mirage interfered with his second run. Captain Evston said that it seemed to obscure the end of the track.
Mr. John Cobb, who on Thursday broke Captain Evston's record of 345.49 miles an hour with a speed of 350.20 m.p.h., is uncertain whether he will reattempt the record this season, but Captain Eyston added that if he made any more runs it "would wear out the Thunderbolt's brakes."
