He Was A FUNNY FAT BOY
WHEN Mrs. Laugh ton, sen., was told on the telephone that she was wanted for an interview about her son, she sighed:
"The hotel is full of people. I've no time for anything." But she is a mother and a reporter can get no job easier than interviewing a mother about her son. What mother is not proud of her son ?
So it didn't need much persuasion to get Mrs. Laugliton to answer the questions asked her.
"When Charles was a baby," said Mrs. Laughton, "I had no idea that he would be an actor. As the Laujrhtons had connection with the Navy, we decided to enter him for the Naval College. He failed to pass his examinations and went to Stoneyhurst College, where he took part in several amateur theatrical shows. I remember he used to come honw talking of almost Bothin* rtse." "He was rather funny, fat, very kind —but very strong-willed. He was fond of dolls and toy theatres and was continually dressing up."
Charles Laughton's new picture, shortly to be released, is " St. Martin's Lane."
