DOMESTIC SQUABBLE.
CONSTABLE ASSAULTED. • " HUSBAND TO PAT £5. Arrested last evening after a struggle with Constable G. A. Olson, a seaman named Herbert Edward Turner (53) appeared in the Police Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting the constable while in the execution ©f hie duty. Turner, who lives, with his wife in Ponsonby, Sub-Inspector Fox said, went home under the influence of liquor at 6.15 p.m. and, after making allegations against his wife's character, ordered her out. "He then started to smash things up in the house," said Mr. Fox. "Neighbours came in and tried to pacify this man, but failed, and when Constable Olson arrived and was being given by Mrs. Turner an account of what had occurred accused struck his wife on the chin and then attacked the constable. The constable closed with him and after a struggle on the road he handcuffed and arrested Turner. As far as the police inquiries ehow there was no ground for Turner's allegations about his wife. Mrs. Turner is not afraid of him now and she asks that her husband be dealt with leniently."
On behalf of Turner, Mr. Aekins said accused did not remember what occurred. It was a domestic squabble aggravated by the liquor Turner had taken and he was sorry for what had occurred. Turner was fined £5, in default 14 days' imprisonment. He was allowed two weeks in which to pay.
