LIVE STOCK MARKETS.

ADOINGTON MARKET

SMALLER FAT SHEEP ENTRY

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday

Entries of fat sheep at the weekly 6tock market at Addington to-day were considera.bly smaller than last week Prices for best lines were a shade better, others being unaltered. Store sheep: Little change, in values. A line oi wether hoggets made 14/3 to 14/7; a pen of ewe hoggets, 13/7; older sorts, 18/. Ewes and lambs sold relatively well, one pen making 11/1 to 11/6, all counted. There was little demand for any class of sheep, particularly for forward wethers. A fat sheep entry of slightly more than 4000 was yarded, a big proportion being rough and unfinished. Values settled down at very little change on last week. e As the sale proceeded a few outstanding pens of ewes and wethers were up 1/, but there was no quotable change. In other classes extra prime wethers made to 35/4; prime, 29/6 to 32/; prime medium, 25/ to 28/6; others, down to 20/; extra prime ewes, 28/1; prime, 20/ to 24/; prime medium, 16/6 to 19/; others, down to 11/. The fat cattle entry totalled 542. Quite a sound demand existed for good and medium quality, although at distinctly lower values. The decrease in price averaged about 20/. Good beef made to 41/ per 1001b; tops, to 43/; heavy, 35/ to 39/; secondary, 34/ to 36/; rough, down to 27/; extra prime steers, to £19 12/6; prime, £15 to £17 15/; prime medium, £14 to £16; light, to £10 10/; extra prime heifers, to £14 2/6; prime, £11 to £12; medium, £9 5/ to £10 15/; light, to £9; extra prime cows, to £14 12/6; prime. £9 10/ to £10 5/; medium,£7 5/ to £9; light, to £6 15/. The entry of fat pigs was scarcely sufficient for butchers' requirements. Choppers were in medium supply, eliciting good competition. Baconers came forward in heavier numbers, values receding by 2/ to 3/ a head, except for first quality beasts. Choppers made £3 1/ to £7 1/; porkers, Sg'e to £3 12/6; average price per lb, 7%d to B%d; baconers, £3 14/6 to £5 9/6; average price per lb, 7d to 7%d.
