PERSONAL.

The Hon. C. J. Carrington. M.L.C.. was a passenger by the Limited express from Wellington this morning. Mr. L. J. Wild, of Feilding. president of the Koval Agricultural Society, will visit Hamilton on Saturday. Mr. W. Bishop, chief accountant of the Railways Department, will leave fot Wellington by train this evening. Mr. Lisle Alderton arrived at Auckland from Wellington by the early train this morning. He will return south this evening. Mr. W. C. Harley, S.M., has left Wellington for Samoa, where he will take up the position of Chief Judge of th» High Court.

Mr. R. H McKenzie. who has been visiting England, will return to Auckland by the Xiagara on September 19.

Captain E. G. Morris, director and registrar of naval reserves, who hat been visiting Auckland, will return to Wellington by the Limited express this. evening.

The Rev. "Albert Mead, who was for 10 years minister of the Moray Place Congregational Church. Duaedin, has left the Dominion to take up work at a church in Capetown, South Africa.

Mr. A. Van Bochove, acting assistantmanager in Australia of the Koyal Packet Xavigation Company, left Auckland by air this morning for Wellington. He will visit the South Island and will return to Sydney by the Maetsuycker from Wellington next week.

Dr. M. A. Falconer, of Dunedin, who lias just returned to Xew Zealand after completing a year's surgical work at the Mayo Clinic, in the United States of America, has been nominated as one of the first two holders of the Xuffield Fellowships at the Xuffield Medical School, Oxford University.

Mr. D. C. McLeod. of Morrinsville, has been nominated as moderator of the Waikato Pre -bytery for the next six months. Mr. McLe<xl is the first layman to hold the office of moderator in thii presbytery. He has been a representative elder in the presbytery for 20 years and a clerk of the Morrinsville congregation for 25 veau.

Mr. l. J. Goldstine. Mayor of One Tree Hill and chairman of the Auckland and Suburban Local Bodies' Association, returned from Wellington by train thii morning after representing the association before the Select Committee set np by Parliament to take evidence on the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill.

Professor T. A. Hunter, vice-chancel-lor of the University of Xew Zealand, riturned to Wellington by the Maunganui after attending a conference of Australian and Xew Zealand University authorities to decide the awarding of the Xuffield Fellowships, two of which are to be awarded annually between the universities of South Africa, Australia and Xew Zealand.

Dr. Russell Fraser, a son of Mr. Malcolm Fraser. of Wellington, has been awarded the Rockefeller Fellowship on the recommendation of the Medical Research Council of London. Dr. Fraser was educated at Scots College. Wellington. and graduated at Otago University, later continning his studies in England? He is medical officer at the Maudsley Hospital. Denmark Hill, London.
