TIBBETT IN AUCKLAND.
CONCERT NEXT WEEK
The programme for the first concert in the Auckland Town Hall to be given by the famous New York Metropolitan Opera House star, Lawrence Tibbett, next Tuesday evening, is remarkable for its variety. The artist will sing excerpts from favourite operas, the famous negro spiritual "De Glory Road," beautiful melodies like Handel's "Where E'er You Walk," and .the biting satire by the Russian composer Moussorgsky of "The Flea." Patrons have been asked to send in, direct to Mr. Tibbett, "at the Town Hall, the names of the title of encores they wish to hear, so that his items will be such as should appeal to all classes and tastes. One of the secrets of this great singer's art is that the words are almost as important to him as the notes. In this he is a welcome change from many other well-known vocalists, and h> B intense dramatic feeling, his sense of humour and his manly grasp of profound pathos is brought out to its fullest extent. When he sings, whether it be an aria or a negro spiritual, he always captures his audience with the vivid impression he creates. Everything he sings becomes a scene, and each word in that scene is expressed to its full meaning'.
