"CHILD ART"

OR. W. J. S. DALE'S ADDRESS.

SOCIETY HOLDS LUNCHEON.

"Child Art" was the subject chosen by Dr. W. J. S. Dale this afternoon when he addreased a luncheon arranged by the Auckland Society of Arts. | Dr. Dale described the reactions of the child, visually, and outlined the basic principles on which child art' should be based. He said the four types of vision were the practic&l, the curiosity, the aesthetic and the creative. It was the creative type that dominated child art.

" • "To-day the child is exhibiting things under a new freedom," eaid Dr. Dale. "I have been astonished at the intuitive qualities of the child during the past few yean. Art in the child to-day aims not at teaching, but at- expression of the self."

Illustrating his remarks with examples of the art of the child, Dr. Dale showed in striking manner how the child, with but little incentive, could express himself.
