BOAT HARBOUR.
ORAKEI PROPOSAL.
FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS.
OTHER SITS 'POSSIBLE.
The chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, Mr. W. B. Darlow, said this morning that, in view of the strong opposition to the proposal to construct a boat harbour at Okahu Bay, Orakei, officials of the board were now investigating other possible sites.
Mr. Darlow added that the point to be decided was whether another site could be secured at what was not a prohibitive cost. If that were possible it would be seriously considered. It had to | be realised, however that in view of the development of the eastern districts a boat harbour on the eastern side had became a necessity, because of the fact that the accommodation provided at Mechanics' Bay would not be available when harbour works were developed in the vicinity. People had to realise that the Harbour Board was the only authority to provide for the boating community.
