MR. JORDAN AND LEAGUE. (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 11. Mr. W."J. Jordan, New Zealand High Commissioner in London, becomes temporary president of the League of Nations by rotation a few days before the assembly in September, when the president will be elected. Mr. Jordaa denies that he has been sounded as to whether he will accept the presidency. LIKELY WITHDRAWAL. POLAND FROM LEAGUE. (Received 2 p.m.) LOXDOX. August 11. The Warsaw correspondent of the "'Daily Telegraph" says that Poland is recalling her resident delegate from the League of Nations, but the action is not to be regarded at present as withdrawal from the League. It is merely a reduction of Polish contacts with the League, especially in the political sphere. It is admitted, nevertheless, that Poland is unlikely to resubmit her candidature [ for League membership.
The Foreign Minister, Colonel Beck, stated that Polish interest in the League had declined. He pointed out that neither France nor Britain possessed permanent delegates at Geneva. Poland** withdrawal from the League was for the time being not decided upon, bat it is possible that she will renounce her seat.
