CITY council. DECISIONS. _____ *• The following matters were dealt with at a meeting of the Auckland City Council last evening, the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, presiding:— Mission Bay Amusements.—lt was decided to give full consideration to the views of residents in the vicinity of Taniaki Drive, at Mission Bay, when applications were made" to conduct amusements, Mich as merry-go-rounds and sideshows, in that area. 1 Disputes Committee.—Mr. A. Howey Walker.was appointed, with Mr. J. A. C. Allum, to represent the council oil the Disputes Committee. Discharge of Men.—The superintendent of parks, Mr. T. S. Aldridge, in a report, replied to a complaint'- by the secretary of the Auckland and Suburban Local - Bodie3 Labourers' Union that men had been discharged from the -parks department under circumstances ■wlycljt. led him to believe tho they had been victimised. Mh Aldridge said tsaf work for casual labourers usually ended towards the approach of winter, arid six men, including three men named by the secretary, had \ been discharged. Their discharge had not been due to any other reason.

Memorial Plaque.—On the recommendation of .the Mayor, a memorial plaque Is-to" be placed in the vestibule of the Town Hall in memory of the late Sir George Richardson. k Waitakere Scenic Drive.—The question of regulations for the strict control ot buildings in the Waitakere Scenic Drive area was referred to the parks committee, the latter to confer with the Waitemata County Council, f.' Museum Council.—Miss E. Melville, Dr. R. G. McElroy and Mr. J. W. Kealy Were appointed to be the council representatives on the executive, council of the Auckland Institute and Museum. Hospital Rate.—The Mayor, in a report, dealt with correspondence which had passed with the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, on the question of increased hospital levies The latter said that the rate in Wellington had increased from 9/11 a head in- 1636 .to 14/2 at present. He considered -that the portion of the levy paid by. the. Gpvetnnjent shoutf be increased, either by th«! State taking over the cost of maintaining hospitals, or by bearing three-quarters of the expenditure. Members Sworn In.—Mr. A. S. Bailey was sworn in and took his seat for the first time aince the municipal election. Collection of Rates.—The City Treasurer, Mr. T. W. M. Ashby, reported that the total current rates and arrears collected to July 31 from April 1 last amounted to £28,768, this 'including £3738 rates, £17,063 rate arrears, and £7M7 previous rate arrears.
