BOXING CONTROVERSY.

K.Z. COHTROIa CRITICISED. PERMIT FOR SOUTHERN FIGHT. (Br Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, Thursday. Part of the blame for the controversy that arose in Christchurch prior to the Jarvis-Ganron boxinc match on night, when the Marlborough Boxing Association intervened, is laid at the door of the New Zealand Boxing Council by Mr. I. McWhinney, president of the Marlborough Association, in a statement made this morning justifying his association's action threatening an injunction against the Christchurch bout. Mr. McWhinney said that the New Zealand Council had no right to issue a permit for the fight in vietr of the fact that Jar vis had already signed up with the Marlborough Association to defend his light-weight title at Blenheim next Saturday. A clause in the title agreements prohibited a boxer from engaging in a contest within seven days oi another bout. "If the New Zealand Council is going to issue permits under circumstances such aa these, it will prove contrary to the welfare of boxing in the Dominion, particularly in the case of minor associations, and the sport will gradually disappear in New Zealand," said Mr. McWhinney. GILDO BEATEN BY AITKEN. i (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday. In a 12-round contest staged by the Manawatu Boxing Association, Billy Aitken (Wellington) beat Young Gildo (Honolulu) on points to-night. Gildo early indicated that he wanted a punching match, but Aitken was content to punish him with short-arm punches as he came in. It was a fine bout, which pleased a very good house.
