MR. WILLIAM FIWLAT.
-»r 2L e . n * fc «owu resident of Rerawn, Mr William Finlay. has died in H« »<th year. He was born at Peterhorougb. Ontario, in 18.52. With his parents he came to New Zealand in 1888 and landed at Xelson in the skip Algerian. Later the faniilv came to -Auckland. Mr. Finlavs first emptovrnent was as groom and gardener to Mr. Cruickshank, ironmonirer, who resided in Victoria Avenue. Remuera. He then joined his father on a successful pold (lain, at Thames, and when thk ceased to be profitable he worked hi kauri forests at Whansaroa and Dargaville. He purchased an area of virgm land at Mauku. where he married » ISBO.| After farming for eight vears near Eltham, he retired to Auckland and settled at Remuera.
| A member of the Salvation Arm v. Mr. Finlay took an active interest in philanthropic work, and it was hugelj throtigh his generosity that a penMß" ent summer camp was established «t Brown's Bay some years ago for H» girls of the Grange 'Orphanage. He i» survived by Mrs. Finlav and bv tw» sons and two daughters." Mrs. Finlav. who arrived in !Sfi3 with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Keith, as a child on the ship LTcoatsi—the first iron sailing ship to make the voyage t» Xew Zealand— resided dnrins the early years of her life at Mauku.
