Clarion Call ran second to All Iriah in the July Steeplechase at Trentbam recently, which is hia best performance for some time. The distance should suit him. Nocturnus has not done much racing recently, but he should be improved by his outing at the South Canterbury fixture last Saturday. Bonnie Rollox is stated to have run a satisfactory race in the same event, while Valpeen may find the distance a bit too short for him. Flashlight; however, after his recent line forrn in the South Island and his win at Trentbam, looks like being favourite. Black Banner failed at South. Courtyard, after his good showings over hurdles in the south and his sue-1 cess m the Winter Hurdles at Trentham, will be one of the fancied division in the Longbeaeh Hurdles. Padishah is stated to have schooled well yesterday, and he would only need to jump properly to be in the money. Fireguard I has won two hurdle events this season and been placed on several other occa, sions. Kilberis was successful in the Campbell Hurdles, at the Great Northern meeting and has been jumping in good style at Ricc.irton since his arrival there. Corban won the Otago Hurdles, one mile and three-quarters, and the Tune Hurdles, one mile and a half, at the last Dunedin fixture, and Lone Raider scored at both Wanganui and Manawatu in May. The favourites maybe COURTYARD PADISHAH KILBKRIS. Chief Flat Event. The Brabazon Handicap frequently gives a good line to the Winter Cup, and to-morrow there are fourteen candidates for the big mile engaged. Paper Slipper can go a mile and sprinted well yesterday. Ponty is a good galloper when right, but he has done little racing for some months. Alma has not been in the money since scoring at Waimate in April, and Cerne Abbas and Queen of Song have "not raced since January last. Araboa won over a mile at the last Dunedin meeting and was fourth over a mile and 35 yards at South Canterbury last Saturday. Sovereign Lady has scored up to a mile and a quarter this season, while Top Row's last success wa« in the Publicans' Handicap, six furlongs, at Dunedin in February. Dictate is a gpod; horse when right, and his ?allop yesterday morning will bring him into favour. Wine Card has been racing well up to a mile and a quarter on the West Caa*t and also in Canterbury, while of the remainder. Great Hope[ Hunting " Llood, Swordstick, Cocksure' nid Supreme Court look the most likely to effect a surprise. The public may go for DICTATE ARABOA
