MRS. N. G. RUSSELL.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED TO-DAY.
Mrs. X. G. Russell, of St. Mary's Road ? j Ponsonby. Auckland, who is celebrating her ninety-fifth .birthday to-day. can ! remember many interesting incidents of 'early life in Xew Zealand. Mr*. Russell has lived her entire life in this countrr. and she has some am using stories to tell of the pioneering days. Her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Taine, arrived in Wellington in 1840, and Mr*. Russell was born at her parents" residence/at Thorndon three years later. In 18G6 Mrs. Russell was married in Dunediii, and she has a family of six children, all of whom are still living in Xew Zealand, with the exception of the eldest son. who has made his home in Queensland. Mrs. Russell has four brothers ranging from the ages of ".» to 85. and she herself still retains all her faculties. She spends her time in reading, doing housework and walking. She enjovs an occasional pame of cards, and stiil takes an active interest in social functions held in Ponsonbv.
