EARLY HISTORY REVIEWED.
The thirty-first anniversary of the Onehunga-Manukan Chamber of Commerce was celebrated last night with a banquet, attended by the principal business people of the town. The president, Mr. F. C. Matthews, presided.
Mr T. S. Bassett, who was present, recalled the first meeting of business men, convened by himself and Mr. A. S. Holmes, in 1907, when the chamber was established.
Other interesting memories were recalled by Messrs. M. H. Wynyard, H. J. Davies, D. H. Kirk-Jones, J. E. Green and Ira J. Sutherland, past presidents of the chamber.
Mr. Wynyard toM of his experience when his parents lived on a farm in the One Tree Hill district. He used to drive' their sheep and cattle to the Onehunga springs daily during periods of dry weather. To-day water is supplied from the same source to One Tree Hill, One-! hunga, Mount Roskill and Ellerslie districts, 1} 600,000 gallons daily being, pumped by electric power into two' reservoirs on One Tree Hill, to serve a population of 30,000 people. !

The election of officers for this year resulted as follows^—President, Mr. F. C Matthews; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. G. Houldsworth and J. Pilkington; council, the Rev. T. H. C. Partridge And Messrs. L. Bray, D, H. Kirk-Jones, H. J. Stone, C. O. West, J. E. Green and C. Thorpe; secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. C. Soar; auditor, Mr. W. T. Yeatman.
During the evening musical and elocutionary items were given by Misses Mary Peake and Alma Bray and Mr. Cyprian Peake.
