ENTHEOS EASILY.

FAST, CLEAN JUMPER. BARLEY ALMOND UNLUCKY. THE MEETING.

Three Wanganui-trained liorses competed in the Maiden at Marton on Saturday, the best showing being made by Eurotas, the rising three-year-old son of Pantheon (says our Wanganui correspondent). The Australian-bred gelding, though not nearly ready, ran well enough to suggest that he will be among, 'the winners shortly. Eurotas is a good looking sort, and did well to get fourth in his first start. Hunting Lore, the winner, is by Hunting Song out of Martulla, and was confidently backed, although he appeared a bit lucky to beat Regicide, who covered a lot of extra ground. Entheos had an easy win in the Hack Hurdles, the Gainscourt —Enthusiasm gelding showing greatly improved form, the firmer going evidently being to his liking. He was ridden, and went very kindly for J. Chaplin, whose first Tide over hurdles it was. His jumping was very fast and clean. Blackmail went a good race, but did not stick on quite so well as Taillight. He should be improved by the race. Rotoma put in a fine finishing effort to win the Hack Flying, after Lady Hoariri had made the pace to the distance. The unlucky horse was Barley Almond, who got away badly and was never near the leaders until he put in a great run to get fourth. Air Shot set off at a great pace in the Hunt Cup Steeplechase, but was nearly down at the first obstacle. Straightened up he draw right away again, jumping in dashing style until he came to grief at

the seventh fence. Hanover and Lady Callaghan carried on the running, the former drawing out to win easily. Manawatu shaped disappointingly, and on his showing his Grand National prospects do not look at all bright. Play On was backed down to a short Criee in the open seven furlongs, but was eaten into second place by Winsome Lu, who came fast over the concluding stages and won comfortably like the good mard' she is when in form. Mittie went well enough to make it look as if she might win a race soon. *-•••, Tres Sec made all the pace in thf. Bracelet, but Kohika put in a good run, and beat the favourite easily at the end! Brioni went lame, otherwise he might have been hard to beat. Flying Acre, 'who had run third in the Hack Flying, came out again in the Farewell Hack, for which Shining Hours was a warm favourite. Shining Hours looked a winner half-way down the straight, where Flying Acre put in a sensational run which gave the opposition no chance'. W. H. Dwyer; intends taking a team of three to'New-Plymouth for the Taranaki Hunt 'Club meeting—Gaily, Pekoe and Middle. All -of them have been going along .nicely in their preparation, and should run well in their events. - Gaily, especially, looks bright and well, and should be capable of one of her best efforts in the Otaka Handicap. On Marton form Winsome Lu might be one "of the hardest to beat if the extra distance does not trouble "her, but "she was running on so strongly at the finish of the seven-furlong ,ev)snt that she must/have a good chance if she takes that event on.

Reports from Hawera credit Lord Cavendish with having improved a lot recently, and the son of Beau Pere is likely to carry Mr. G. F. Moore's colours prominently in the Wairau Maiden at New Plymouth on Saturday. A win in that event will bring Lord Cavendish into favour for the Wanganui Guineas.
