HIGHER VOLTAGE.
NEW TRANSMISSION LINE.
PEXROSE-HEXDERSON CIRCUIT.
Advice that the Public Works Department intended to erect and put into commission by the winter of 1040 a new transmission line of 110,000 volts capacity between Penrose and Henderson was communicated to the Waitemata Electric Power Board at its meet hi" today by the manager, Mr. A. Main."
The board had been making representations to the Department during the past 18 months to improve generally the transmission capacities over its system operating in the board's area. Mr. Main said, and particularly to increase the capacity of the present 50,000-volt Penrose-Henderson line.
"The route, of the new line, when surveyed last year, went through the Titirangi golf links, but the new survey made last month avoids the golf link's property altopetlier." added Mr. Main
The wisdom of the board's policy in pressing for this improvement was indicated by the circumstances of a breakdown which occurred last month, the manager also pointed out. During a storm one wire on the west circuit of the Penrose-Henderson line bad broken, and in falling had fouled the east circuit. The mishi p caused a total shutdown over the whole of the board's area.
